2009 The 40th Anniversary of On The Buses

2009 see the arrival of the 40th Anniversary of the British Hit comedy series
ON the Buses...looking at the dvds today the shoiw has not lost its humor over
time but still the laugh a minute, hijinx of the Luxton and District Bus Company.
Sadly, three of the memebers have passed on..................
Doris Hare (MUM) age, Bob Grant (Jack Harper), suicide and Micheal Robbins (Arthur),
cancer. Reg Varney (Stan) has retired form acting, Anna Karen (Olive) still seen at special OTB events, and Stephen Lewis (Inspector Blake) works at Pontins in North Wales. This series was a classic as was the Carry on Films from the Uk.....too all those involved in OTB over the years a big thanks for all the laughs.

Dois came into On the Buses in the second series, but really was the perfect choice as MUM. She was always good for a laugh the previous actress lacked or was not given the oppurtunity to show. She would always stick up for her
children, but scold them when needed.

IN MUMS LAST FLING SHES ALL DRESSED UP IN A SHORT SKIRT AND LONG BOOTS.....LASTING MEMORY OF THE EPISODE!!!

Micheal Robbins ( Arthur Rudge)

( 1930-1992)

Micheal was very talented on the screen and the TV...Playing Arthur Rudge in

On The Buses, he was on the end of many jokes delivered by Stan (Reg Varney).

Most of the jokes were to deal with his "Operation" that seemed to limit his sex

drive with wife Olive (Anna Karen). If you talk about a maraige made in hell then,

Arthur and Olive was that. Arthur was a hospital worker when he arrived on the Butlers

doorstep looking for a room, they made it as a railway ticket agent, and then as a bus driver,

in the movie On the Buses. The facial expressions that Micheal gave when being the but of Stans jokes, or when Olive did something wacko, was worth a good laugh or too. Micheal left the series early and that was too bad as it did not give the writers a chance to end the relationship with Olive on a funny note. Seen Micheal in a bit Part in Victor/Victoria as a french innkeeper,

he was great for the short time in the film, the best part being when juile andrews offers him sex for a meatball!!!

CRAZY, BUT WHEN HE GETS A TASTES AND ENTER THE ROOM WHEN JACK BRING S A SOBER STAN HOME, HIS ANTICS ARE REALLY ENJOYABLE....

bob played jack perfectly it would be hard to see anyone else do it better, maybe sid james,
but thats about it. Jack was more the troublemaker between him and stan yet stan always ended up in Blakeys bad books....

Favorite Bob Grant moment in on the Buses: in Holiday on the Buses he escapses Blakeys

wrath in the room with the nurse buy climbing out the window....and escaping and with stans

jacket ,makes Blakey blame Stan....priceless....

thanks for the laughs Bob, you were great!!!

On the Buses -The Movies

The first Movie : On the Buses has Stan and Jack taking advantage of the bus depot's staff shortage, by sneaking off to have a sexual meeting with a byrd at a turnaround point, stan gets Jack there for the date, but unknown to them Blakey sneaks up on the idle bus while Stan is having his tea break. Then Jack in a panic rushes out to the bus, half dressed to feel Blakeys
wrath> fed up with the layabouts, Blakey decides to hire woment drivers, which brings about laughter from the bus crews, but brings problems to Stan when he loses his overtime, Jack loses his daytime romances, and Blakey is happy for the moment. Stan and jack plan a course of action of getting rid of the women drivers, by re routing thier buses, putting spiders in the bus,
and piss in the womens drivers tea to make them urinate more often, even more funny is Blakey taking a cup of tea. Stan having problem on the romance scene, finally finds a byrd, but shes a driver. and Jack and the lads will not lets this continue, and go round to Stans house and threaten him with bodily harm if the relationship does not end....it does. Once she gives up the driving and becomes a clippie, Stan is thrilled but its Jack that makes the move, and when Stan show up at he House Jack is already there in action.

This film replaced a 007 james bond at the top of the British box offices, and it it still considered one of the best OTB movies.

On the Buses_The Series

The Best tv comedy to ever come out of the UK ran from
1969-1973 spaning 7 series, 3 movies. It centered around
the sexual hijinx of Stan Butler( Reg Varney),busdiver,
and his girl cracy conductor friend Jack Harper ( Bob Grant).
When they were not going after the byrds, the made life very
hard on the Luxton and District's Inspector Cyrill Blake (Stephen
Lewis) who also made work at the depot dificult for Stan and Jack.
The othr focus of the series was Stans home life which involved him living at home with his "MUM" (Doris Hare), His Sister Olive (Anna Karen) and brother
in law Arthur ( Micheal Robbins).
